Evidence & cautions A guidebook chapter
What is known about unwanted effects?
Missing information is part of the answer. “No problems reported” can mean nobody looked closely.
Semax cautions: September 30, 2026.
The studies leave a large blank
The Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, found too little information from use in people to describe Semax side effects reliably.
Most of the human reports did not discuss unwanted effects.
There are no human studies measuring how Semax moves through the body, breaks down or leaves it, including how long it lasts.
Information about use in pregnancy or breastfeeding is missing too.
Concerns from animal studies
The FDA raised a bleeding concern because Semax slowed the formation of blood clots in rats.
This is a concern from animal studies, rather than proof of bleeding in people.
Amphetamine is a stimulant: a drug that makes the brain more active. Ask your doctor or pharmacist whether any medicine you take contains it.
In mice, Semax made the rise in dopamine caused by amphetamine larger.
Dopamine is a chemical that carries messages between brain cells.
That raised an FDA concern about whether Semax could be habit-forming, but it has not been tested for that.
The ingredient also matters
The FDA found gaps in information about the raw Semax ingredient, including unwanted substances and clumps of the peptide.
A peptide consists of protein building blocks linked in a short chain.
The FDA worried that these clumps and unwanted substances could make the body’s defences attack the peptide, especially when injected.
This means a possible immune reaction: the body treating the peptide as something to fight. The source does not tell us which symptoms to expect, so this guide cannot give you a symptom checklist.
The FDA found no human safety data for injected Semax.
For a care discussion, bring a list of medicines and supplements, and mention bleeding problems or pregnancy plans. Ask whoever would prescribe it, whether a doctor or another health professional, how they would deal with the missing information.
Brief source notes
At the end of this chapter
Keep this in mind.
A lack of measured side effects is not evidence that Semax has none.
